First tools

A New Beginning asks you to craft a Stone Pickaxe, Stone Axe and Stone Shiv before making a Crude Bow. The pickaxe mines, the axe chops wood, and the shiv is a knife tool for skinning.

Stay warm

Clothing, heat sources and shelter protect you from the cold. Body Warmth is separate from health, hunger, energy and stamina. The opening quest requires building a Campfire and warming up.

Stay near active fires or heaters to raise your body temperature.

Watch the icon in the bottom-left corner, it shows the current area temperature. The shield icon next to it shows your Body Warmth, which starts to drop if the temperature falls below it.

First quests

Find Wood × 3 and Stone × 3, build a Campfire and warm up. The opening quest then teaches the basic tools, cabin access and bow crafting.

At the cabin-door stage, the quest lists Cloth× 5 as its reward.
